Earlier this week, the North Carolina Education Lottery released details regarding the fortunate Davidson woman, who scored a sweet $2m prize from the Mega Millions drawing on Friday.

The lucky lottery player purchased her winning ticket at Harris Teeter located at Peninsula Drive in Davidson.

The woman used the Quick Pick option and ultimately, this brought her the hefty win.

Speaking to an official from the Lottery, the lucky woman admitted that she initially thought of buying only Powerball tickets.

However, she said that her husband told her to buy tickets for Mega Millions too.

Following her husband’s advice, the couple can now enjoy their newfound fortune.

The lucky Davidson resident was the sole person to match five white balls from Friday’s Mega Millions drawing.

While usually, matching five winning numbers pays out $1m, the prize was doubled thanks to a 2X Megaplier, increasing the win to $2m.

The random Megaplier was part of the recent changes to Mega Millions, which also included a ticket price increase.

“We probably haven’t bought any since last year, but we saw the Powerball jackpot was over $700m so we decided to buy some,” the woman said.

Moreover, the lucky winner explained that after winning the prize, she was in disbelief.

“It was overwhelming. I was just like, ‘This can’t be,” the Mecklenburg County woman admitted.

The fortunate woman visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters to claim her newfound fortune.

After the applicable state and federal taxes, her bank account increased by $1,435,001.

When she was asked about her plans for her newfound fortune, the woman said she would likely travel to visit family in Maine.

A $277m jackpot is up for grabs from Mega Millions

Mega Millions’ latest drawing was on Tuesday. The popular game offered a $253m top prize or nearly $114m in cash.

Regrettably, nobody matched all the winning numbers to score the game’s jackpot.

This means that the top prize from Mega Millions will continue to grow.

With the game’s next drawing planned for Friday, August 29, 2025, the game’s jackpot is an estimated $277m.

In case a player matches all winning numbers on the next drawing, and they select a cash option, they would be looking for a mind-boggling $124.6m payout.
