In less than a week, a second player in Michigan won a million-dollar prize from Powerball.
This time, a lucky Detroit player scored a $2m tier-two prize from the popular game’s draw on Wednesday, the Michigan Lottery announced.
Winner misses jackpot by a single number
The identity of the fortunate Michigander is still unknown.
However, according to the Lottery, they purchased their winning ticket at the Sunkiss Market at 13535 Puritan Street in Detroit.
The Powerball drawing on Wednesday saw winning numbers 3, 16, 29, 61, 69 and red Powerball number 22 drawn.
The fortunate lottery player missed a single number in the drawing and won a tier-two prize, instead of the jackpot.
While usually, a tier-two prize would’ve paid out $1m, the winner’s prize was multiplied thanks to the game’s Power Play feature, bringing him a hefty $2m.
As noted, the latest win marks the second time a Michigan player has nearly missed the Powerball jackpot.
On Monday night, another fortunate lottery player won a tier-two prize.
The ticket, purchased in Grosse Pointe, matched the five white balls for a $1m payday.
In a press release, Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan Lottery’s Commissioner, shared her excitement.
“A lucky player who bought a Powerball ticket in Detroit is waking up to a big $2 million win! Congratulations to Michigan’s newest millionaire,” she said.
Finally, Shkreli pointed out: “The jackpot is still growing, and so is the excitement for Saturday night’s drawing!”
Powerball jackpot becomes third largest, $1.70bn up for grabs on Saturday
Surviving on Wednesday’s drawing, the Powerball jackpot has continued to grow, becoming the third largest in the history of the game.
With the next Powerball draw scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, the top prize would be an estimated $1.70bn, or $770.3m cash option.
As noted, if won on the next drawing, the jackpot would go down as the third largest, outranked only by the $1.765bn jackpot won in October 2023 and the largest-ever top prize for the astronomical $2.04bn, won on November 7, 2022.
As the top prize from Powerball continues to grow, so does the interest in the popular game.
On Powerball’s latest drawing, more than 5 million players won prizes within the different prize tiers.
A total of 11 players won $1m prizes each, while four fortunate winners scored $2m Power Play prizes each.
